14 Apr 2012 : K. B. Singh !!!
It saddens me greatly to inform you all about the ill-timed death of Khush Bhakt (KB) Singh, a loving and caring husband and father,  a very dear personal friend, a decent and dignified human being, long time friend and an ardent supporter of Boston Gymkhana. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Avneesh Singh and his three daughters Shivajli (18 Yrs), Niharika (16 yrs) and Jasmine (9 yrs).
KB Singh was a great human being, a loving and caring father and a sincere friend he will be sorely missed. His death came as a sudden and great shock to all of us. Dealing with the emotional crisis of a spouse's and a parent’s death is difficult enough, especially if the person was the breadwinner for the family. Hence, with the untimely death of KB Singh, his family is not only going through emotional pain of losing a loved one but also a financial hardship without any life insurance support.
I invite and encourage everyone to donate and support the family of KB Singh during this tough time.  Your donation will have an immediate dramatic impact on the life of his family.  You can donate by sending a personal check payable to “Boston
Gymkhana” to me or using paypal account “bostongymkhana@gmail.com”.  Please write “KB Singh” in memo if you chose to donate.

Because the family of KB Singh is struggling with many issues that impact not only their immediate needs but also their long-term financial support, Boston Gymkhana will offer our club’s and other friends and well wishers assistance in anything that the family may ask of us, in this dire time of need.  Many have already come forward and are helping out in various ways.
  • Providing food based on the requirements of the family
  • Help in understanding financial situation (e.g. non-existent life insurance policy, 401K)
  • Legal issues (e.g., probate, mortgage)
  • Medical coverage
  • Creating a club level fundraising vehicle to help mitigate some of the immediate financial hardship.
Please feel free to contact me for additional information. I look forward to your support and generosity.  I will forward additional information as it comes available.

13 Mar 2012 : BGPL and more !!!
Dear Gymkhanians,

2011 was another banner year in many respects as we took on the challenge of creating a brand new cricket field, a seemingly insurmountable hurdle at the time.  Through sheer hard work, blood, elbow grease/sweat and tears (yes it happened) this became a reality with two first on its kind net facility in Massachusetts.  In addition to this, the club and its members were very active in 2011, a list of some of the projects and activities we were involved in is listed here (BGSC2011).

This required tremendous teamwork and coordination on everyone part.  The real key to BGSC success has been the women, friends and family members that support and many times take over entire projects.    Special thanks to Anu Gorur, Deepika Bhayana, Madhu (Maddy) Jois, Sonal Chavan, Madhu, Fauzia, Paayal, Jasleen, Shyamala, Meghna Anantha, Shruthi Reddy, Indu Khosla, Pratima Patil, Mrs. Reddy and so many more.

Some of the things that we will be focused on for 2012 are:

BGPL tournament
We created the BGPL tournament “on the fly in 2011” it was a great success for all who participated, BGSC and non-BGSC members.  BGPL tournament allowed us to create an opportunity for the various club teams  to come together.  Building upon this success we are expanding the BGPL tourney and this innovation allows for:
  • more competitive cricket and greater interaction between teams within the club and also wit the greater cricketing fraternity.
  • greater opportunities for various club members to be involved in various aspects of managing the club and thus nurturing the next generation of Gymkhanians.
  • more friends and family involvement and more recreational cricket.

Details are on bostongymkhana.com website and we encourage all BGSC members to register for the auction.  You do not have to be a BGSC member to register or participate in the tournament.  This tourney is obviously great for folks that are cricket fanatics, but is also very well suited for the occasional or accidental cricketer.  So spread the word and encourage your friends and acquaintances to register.

To run this tournament we will need all of your help, a meeting is scheduled for going over the details on Sunday Mar. 18th after nets.  If you can get involved, please let me know.

Kids Summer Camp:
Over the last two summers we had organized Kids Summer Cricket Camps and these camps have been a hit with kids.  Deepika Bhayana is developing the program for 2012.

Curry Cup 2012:
Curry Cup is the signature event for the club as it brings all of the elements, Friends Family, Food, cricket and Fun together for the Club.  Anu Gorur and team did a great job in coordinating a highly succesfull Curry Cup in 2011.  The 2012 version is still to be finalized, but will certainly feature a more robust cricket tournament with $10,000 in prize at stake and involve additional teams, perhaps a couple outside New England.

Website:
Boston Gymkhana SC website does not truly reflect what we are as a club, and needs major overhaul.  We have made numerous efforts but have failed to find a winning formula- a website that reflects the club activities, maintain stats, is interactive and user friendly.  Raja Kolli has taken the lead and will be spearheading this effort.  We will need various skill sets if are to make this happen quickly.  If you have experience with design, architecture, front-end and back-end, graphic design and other related functions please contact Raja or me.

Tariq Siddique and the BGSC-D has been doing a tremendous job in running and managing the nets and keeping the off-season going.  In addition to this work is ongoing on repairing the lawn equipment, new hardware has been ordered for nets (they were destroyed in the ice-storm in late fall), we are also working on being registered as a non-profit organization (paperwork galore) for easier write-off for sponsorship, and so much more.

There is so much more, such as versions of Boston Gymkhana Wicket Ale being brewed, news of the Poker Tourneys, tennis cricket etc...That must wait for the next time...

20 Oct 2011 : Curry Cup 2011 !!!
Thanks to the vigorous participation of numerous Boston Gymkhanians and supporters, 4th Annual Invitational Curry Cup was a grand success.  We successfully hosted the largest cricket tournament in club history with eight teams participating in 15 games over two weekends.  Approximately 450 people attended the final day making it the single largest event in club history.  Over 1,600 meals served....truly a team effort.  In the capacity of Guest of Honor, Massachusetts state Senator Richard Ross presented awards and presented Boston Gymkhana SC with an Official Citation from Commonwealth of Mass. State Senate, signed by the Senate President Therese Murray and offered by Senator Richard Ross congratulating the club and recognizing the event.

We owe this success to a great extent to the ladies and friends of Gymkhana, who are often behind the scene making everything happen.  We owe our gratitude to Anu Gorur, Deepika Bhayana, ShaliniKumari, Madhu (Manu's Sister), Meghna (Parak's Daughter), Madhu (Ravi Venkat), Preeti Arora, Gopi & Preeti Patel, Sonal Chavan, Beenu Riar,Indu Khosla, Afreen Banu, Jasleen Shah, Ramya, Umraz Syed, Vijaya Reddy, Keerthi, Payal Patel, Fauzia,  Pratibha Bhanushali, Asma(Shamsheer Ali), Jagga's Mom, Mrs. Awais Sultan and the many more that I have missed.  In addition the club has always benefited from non cricketers who are some of the greatest benefactors to the club  The Batra Family (Suman/Kapil/Aunty and Sejal), Pratima Patil & Aunty and Avneesh and KB Singh and so many more.   Gaurav Tanna and the team from Nanhi Kali were there to generate support for the education for young girls.

Pictures and event details are being collated and gradually posted on facebook.  We'll also post a link at bostongymkhana.com shortly.   If you have any that you would like to share, please forward it to me and I'll incorporate that in the Club's website.

Thanks to everyone that participating in this effort, those who couldn't there is always next year.

Restrooms are available at the ground as well.  The cricket ground does not have a physical address per se, you may use 10 Emerald street, Wrentham, MA to get to the vicinity of the ground.

After careful consideration of age groups of registered kids, we have decided to  hold a 3 day camp only at this time.  After the 3 day camp we will take a survey on-site and also online of participating members and design a program which allows kids to keep developing their cricket skills.  Details will be forthcoming.

Volunteers (parent):  We will be creating 4 teams based on age and skill levels.  Each team will be assigned 3 BGSC club members to coach and mentor the players and walk them through various apect of the game.  We will also like to have a volunteer parent to be assigned to each team, if you would like to volunteer please contact us and we’ll assign you to a team.  Knowledge of cricket is helpful, but not essential.

Day 1 of the camp (Friday, July 15th) - Registration and payment for the camp will start on Friday, July 15th at 4:30 PM followed by a 30 minute presentation to kids on “Introduction to cricket” starting at 5:00 PM that will include the history of Cricket, basic layout and rules of the game, and equipment information.  Kids will perform the cricket drills after the introductory session.

Cricket camp will start promptly at 5:00 PM, so please reach the ground by 4:30 PM in order to timely complete registration and payment processing.  Checks must be payable to “Boston Gymkhana, SC”. Please remember to bring the signed waiver form attached with this email.

The kids will be provided a uniform t-shirt for playing Cricket.  At the end of the session on Friday, food and drinks will be provided to the kids.  A short 15 minute refreshment break will also be held mid session.

15 Jun 2011 : Club Update, 6/15/2011 !!!
Club Update, 6/15/2011 !!!
Nuts 'n Bolts:
BGSC has procured another commercial ride-on mower in its quest to tame the fields, in addition to the mower we have procured a trailer to lug the equipment along.  Small matters of registering/insuring the trailer and outfitting a SUV with trailer hitch need to be tended too; and the fields are "out to pasture".  Masood Shaikh, Dilip Chavan, Jagadish Tupakula and Parak did lot of work in researching, running around etc to make this happen.  Special thanks to Masood Shaikh who took an entire day off on Friday to look at tractors all over the State of MA before lugging the tailer and tractor to Wrentham.

FunDay:
Funday a charity event organized by "Friends of Wrentham" featuring 25 organizations including Boston Gymkhana Sports Club. Rain was a major distraction most of the day, however many kids in raincoats braved the elements and took part in this fun event. Over 75 kids and adults participated in the cricket portiion of the event.   Per the organizers, cricket was one of the biggest draws of the day.

Moin, Tariq, Jagadish, Parak and Bikram participated in the planning, Panduka Dabarre contributed cases of soft drinks for the participants, while Bikram, Parak, Jagadish, Tariq, Juzar and Shruthi helped in manning the event.  We were rather shorthanded for this event, it was rather disappointing that few of the BGSC folks who had earlier committed failed to show up.

BGSC-A/club nets Thursday
BGSC Club nets Friday

BGSC touring Team to Montreal, Canada
BGSC embarks on its first ever International game with a tour to Montreal, Canada for a game against the Pirates of St. Lawrence.  The Friends and Family entourage is about 25 strong and we can accommodate a few more travelers (drivers and chefs needed :-).   The "Team" will be leaving Boston late Friday afternoon for Bromont, Quebec.  Friday evening and Saturday are dedicated to sightseeing etc and friendly game is scheduled for Sunday am and returning to Boston the same evening.  If your schedule permits, please contact me (bikramsingh101@gamil.com) or Parak (parakananta@gmail.com).

Cricket Results:
After a horrid weekend of six losses there was some partial respite for BGSC teams on the cricket front.  There were seven games scheduled, BGSC won two and lost one game and the other four games were abandoned due to poor weather.

Tennis Cricket:
BGSC Tennis cricket team debuted in NECA league with a close win over MathWorks team.  This also happened to be the fisrt game at Wrentham III.  Raja Kolli is leading the BGSC Tennis Cricket team and is assisted by Bhamin Chatrapati.  Kudos to all who participated.  Raja Kolli will be updating the scorecard shortly.

BGSC touring/friendly:
BGSC game against Colonial Cavaliers was abandoned due to poor weather conditions.

BGSC MSCL games:
BGSC-C had two scheduled games which were both washed out, BGSC-MIT game on Sunday was also washed out.  BGSC-D lost a few players late and narrowly lost their encounter against Eagle-B.

BGSC-A finally notched a win with an impressive bowling performance against CCC-B.  Dilip Chavan, Manpreet Singh, Sanjay Krishna, Jaideep Reddy & Manas Sahu dominated the proceedings, Parak Anantha was also outstanding behind the stumps, pocketing SIX catches.  Despite dropping six catches BGSC-A bowled CCC-B for 107.

06 Jun 2011 : Club Update !!!
This past weekend, all Gymkhana opponents won, six losses for the club, sordid details forthcoming (we are searching for positive spin to go along the news; as soon as it comes available, I'll be happy to share with you all). In addition to the MSCL league games we have two friendly games and a Charity Cricket Event (Funday @ Wrentham I).  Folks it is important that we participate and make this event and the weekend games successful.  Moin/Tariq please add these Events/Fixtures.

Funday Details
Saturday the 11th:
We will have a DJ at one of our stations and periodically he will be announcing exciting things happening throughout the events. So think about how to keep track at your station and let one of the crew walking around know and we will make announcements to get people excited about your events.  Having signs or posters advertising the events at your station will also be helpful. If your group has a banner you could use that! Remember if you need tables, chairs etc. please bring them with you. If you asked for electricity it is available to your station -Be sure to bring extension cords (outdoor ones!) If you asked for water, there is access but you will need a hose – please plan to bring one with you (you may also need something to carry water balloons for example as the water is not right at the station.)

We will sell all tickets  from one central location. They will be sold individually for $1 each . You will receive a bucket for collecting tickets at your station. For each ticket you collect you can turn it in for $.25 ( we would ask all booths to collect tickets even if they are planning to donate the money back to WEST and Friends) Passports will also be sold. A passport will be numbered with each of the booth’s numbers as well as three bonus stars. Someone purchasing the passport will pay $20 and can visit all 23 stations as well as 3 bonus ones (a second time. )When you are handed a passport you will use your sharpie (we will provide) to x off your station's number. If someone is using a bonus star for your booth you can write your booth number on the bonus star. When passports are turned in at the end of the day, bonus stars will be counted and groups will get one extra ticket or .25 for each bonus star marked with your group number. All groups will automatically receive a one count ticket for every passport sold.
Kids will be turning in completed passports for a chance to win our FUN DAY prizes (An ipad as well as some other donated items)

Please check in with the WEST/Friends ticket sales booth when you arrive – at least by 9:00 am and in time to have your booth up and running for our 10:00 opening. There will be some early action on the fields as the Hot Air Balloon will begin at 9 – so bring your own kids to set up for an exciting early ride! Please be sure you have coverage and proper manning for your station from 10-4pm. Kids, older players etc can all help but please plan to have at least one adult on site all day.

16 May 2011 : Week Ending 5.15.11
Team Gymkhana,

Kudos to BGSC-MIT in doing a fantastic job with grass-cutting at the Wrentham-I ground.  Jatin Karvir, Raja Ananda, Rahul Bhaskaran, Bharat, Raja Kolli, Vineet Prabhu, Dhramvir Singh, Sreedhar T.,  Parak A., Tariq Siddique, Shakeel Sattar and Dilip all contributed to make this happen.  Wrentham-I has never looked this good.  BGSC-D has the responsibility to this much "treasured" this weekend.

Nets were held Wed, Thursday and Friday.  We are not doing a good job in communicating the net sessions properly and will need to put a better system in place including putting together a practice kit.  Ideas welcome.

This week BGSC-A is holding mandatory nets either outdoors or indoors (Extra Innings, Wrentham- inclement weather).

Culinary Update:
Sanjay Krishna made some amazing food for BGSC-A game Vs Lagaan.  Prodded to bring anything to the game (even a boiled egg) responds with Rasam rice, Curd Rice, Sundal, and mango pickle, all amazingly good.  Suhas also debuts in this department with delicious chicken curry.

Sheds are still in disarray, if anyone wants to take the lead on putting these in order please contact me :).
